Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for more than 20 years. She's also a seasoned public speech writer. Feminist Frequency provides videos, comments and an analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. Feminist Frequency investigates how women are depicted in pop culture. In addition, she works to bring awareness to the targeted and sexist attacks on women, as well as other minorities, she is committed to breaking down stereotypes that are in the popular culture. A graduate in political and social thought at York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public speaking engagement and has given speech at the TEDxWomen Festival and the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She was fascinated by the gender issue and feminist movements at a young age. In 2009, when she was continuing to study at the university level she started the Feminist Frequency website. Someone who hoped to start a web-series examining the representation of gender in video games was targeted in the internet campaign. This attack was not enough to stop her. It actually made her more committed to being a feminist and a media critic. Sarkeesian has been awarded many awards for her contributions to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winner for her work as a journalist. She was also the director and founder of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization that explores pop culture gender representations.
